Introduction of Thailand

Synopsis

Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand and formerly known as Siam, is a country in Southeast Asia.It is composed of 76 provinces, and covers an area of 513,120 square kilometers (198,120 sq. mi), and a population of over 66 million people. The capital and largest city is Bangkok, a special administrative area. Thailand is bordered to the north by Myanmar and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar.

Culture

In such a long history, Thailand has continuously absorbed foreign cultures and immigrants. Foreign writers, painters, sculptors, dancers, musicians and architects have contributed to the flourishing development of Thai local culture. The local residents of Thailand are actually composed of many ethnic groups. There are mainly Thai natives, Mongolians, Khmers, Laos, Chinese, Malays, Persians and Indians. It can be said that there are no pure Thais. Because of this, Thai people have different body shapes, different skeletal heights, facial features, and skin tone. About 80% of Thais have a relationship with agriculture. To a certain extent, agriculture is directly or indirectly affected by religious festivals and ceremonies. So Thailand is a country with great cultural characteristics.

 

Cuisine

Thailand is a tropical coastal country in Southeast Asia. It is known as the world's granary because of its abundance of rice. The superior geographical conditions make Thailand's domestic green vegetables, tropical fruits, and fishery resources extremely rich. The staple food of Thais is rice, and the non-staple food is mostly fish, shrimp and vegetables. The characteristics of Thai cuisine is usually salty, sour, and spicy, with a little sweetness, while the bitterness is faintly behind. There are many kind of seasonings that only can find in Southeast Asia, such as coconut milk, nine-layer pagoda, lemongrass, Thai lime and chili. There are five major cuisines in Thai cuisine- Central Plains cuisine, Thai capital cuisine, Southern Thai cuisine, Lanna cuisine and Yishan cuisine, due to different geography and culture it causes different major have different characteristics on their cuisines
